About the song: Smokey Mountain Daisies...  Hannah Smith (nee Hall) is the mother of Bessie Carpenter (nee Smith). When Bessie was a small child, she would search the countryside for a daisy. She would pick the daisy and  bring it home to her mother. Her mother would put the daisy in a jar or glass of water and set it on the windowsill of their little coal miner's shack where they lived. In the church they attended, Hannah was bitten by a rattlesnake on her chest right over her heart but miraculously she survived. Hannah's daughter Bessie, at present, is living here in Covington, Kentucky, and she told me the stories of Hannah and her childhood.
